What exactly are Chakras?

Hello Loves, 

As most of you know I practice an Energy Healing Technique called Reiki.

When I am practicing Reiki I like to focus on balancing the Chakras as I believe this is essential in the beginning of someone's journey and an absolute need throughout what follows.

That being said not a lot of people are even aware of what a Chakra is so here I am explaining to the best of my ability <3

Chakras affect us in every part of our lives. Unbalanced Chakras can manifest into physical pain, anxiety, depression ect. Reiki assists in keeping all the Chakras balanced and running at optimal performance so that you can enjoy your life fully. We actually have way more than 7, but these 7 will be where my focus lies to teach you.

What exactly is Chakra?

Chakras are the concentrated energy centers of the body. Chakra is a Sanskrit term and it means “wheel” or “disk” and is derived from the root word “cakra”. Chakras are spinning wheels of energy/light. Responsible for our day to day reality physically and spiritually.

What are Chakras for beginners?

Chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.

Starting at the base of your tailbone we will begin with 

The Root Chakra:

The colour of this Chakra is Red.

This is where your passion, survival instincts, logic and order, sexuality, physical strength and fight or flight mechanisms reside. 

Imbalance of the Root can manifest into lower back pain, feeling insecure, low sex drive, chaos in your life and lack of desire or fulfillment. 

The sense of smell is connected to the Root Chakra. 

The gonads are connected closely to the root chakra.

Look for crystals that are red or black  in colour to assist in balance and grounding.

Moving up to the belly button area we move to 

The Sacral Chakra:

The colour of the Sacral Chakra is Orange.

It relates to the water element in your human body.

This is where more of your sexuality, reproductive function, joy, desire, creativity and compassion resides.

Imbalance in the Sacral Chakra can manifest into the inability to conceive or carry to term a baby,

Lack of finding joy in anything, blockages and feeling stuck in life with no hope, depression ect.

The female reproductive organs, large intestine, pelvis and bladder are related to the Sacral Chakra. 

Look for crystals that are orange in colour to assist in balancing your Sacral

Moving up the body to the solar plexus area

The Solar Plexus Chakra

The colour of the Solar Plexus Chakra is Yellow.

This Chakra relates to personal power.

It is responsible for personal and professional success, your fire, energy and charge.

Imbalance in this Chakra can cause you to feel a lack of confidence, low level of respect for yourself or others, disconnect like someone pulled the plug on your creativity.

When in balance allows the feeling of confidence and creativity to flow . 

The sense of sight is associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra as well as the adrenal glands.

Find crystals of yellow colour like Citrine to help balance this Chakra.

Moving just a bit further up the body to your heart center.

The Heart Chakra

The colour of this Heart Chakra is green.

The Heart Chakra influences your relationships  and your capacity to feel and give love.

When out of balance The Heart Chakra can make you feel out of balance, sabotage relationships by distrust, anger,envy, you can feel unloved or unable to open up to others and have a hard time trusting.

Often if your Heart Chakra is too open it can leave you vulnerable and open to feeling tremendous emotional pain.

This Chakra is related to the sense of touch and the thymus and lymph glands.

Crystals green or pink in colour work best with this Chakra especially Rose Quartz.

Continuing up to your throat

The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is Blue.

The Throat Chakra is responsible for your communication and listening skills; it refers to our true inner voice.

Speaking our truth.

When imbalanced it can leave you with a feeling of a lump in your throat or even physically manifest into a sore throat.

When in balance The Throat Chakra allows you to have a pleasant voice, artistic abilities, expressive ways and the ability to align and maintain a high vibration.

Light Blue crystals including Blue Lace Agate are great for your Throat Chakra.

Now we head to the middle of your forehead

The Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra is Indigo.

This is your spiritual eye that you use to see things that can't be seen by the naked eye.

When balanced it allows telepathic abilities, charismatic personality and often you will not fear death because you are connected to your soul's truth.

The Third Eye Chakra is related to your thoughts and brain function.

When unbalanced it can manifest into insomnia, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety and migraines.

Search out crystals of purple or indigo/blue colour to assist in balancing this Chakra.

We finish on the crown of your head

The Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is Violet.

It is your antenna to the cosmos, your connection to source.

The Crown Chakra is where you connect to source the seat of consciousness some might call it.

When imbalanced it creates weaknesses in our emotional behaviour and state of mind.  It can be related to cognitive functions and even memory loss.

When you release the trapped stale energy in your Crown Chakra it can remedy the issues back to balance and relieve that ailments associated with imbalance.

The Crown Chakra is related to the pituitary gland, nervous system, brain and head.

Purple or White colored stones are great for helping to balance this Chakra.

I hope this little guide assists you in whatever knowledge you are searching for and clears up some questions or invokes an even larger thirst for knowledge
